The Legacy Of Lou Gehrig

Major League Baseball Celebrates Lou Gehrig Day on June 2

The Legacy of Lou Gehrig

Lou Gehrig was a legendary baseball player who spent his entire 17-year career with the New York Yankees. He was a seven-time All-Star, a six-time World Series champion, and a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Gehrig was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 1939, and he died from the disease two years later.

MLB's Celebration of Lou Gehrig Day

Major League Baseball has been celebrating Lou Gehrig Day since 2019. The day is dedicated to raising awareness of ALS and honoring Gehrig's legacy. On Lou Gehrig Day, all 30 MLB teams will wear special patches on their uniforms, and there will be a variety of events held throughout the league to raise funds for ALS research.

This year, Lou Gehrig Day will be held on June 2. The Los Angeles Dodgers will be observing Lou Gehrig Day by hosting a pregame ceremony before their game against the San Diego Padres. The ceremony will include a speech from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and a special tribute to Gehrig from Dodgers legend Tommy Lasorda.
