Early Life and Career
Alberto Contador Velasco, born on December 6, 1982, is a former Spanish cyclist. Hailing from Madrid, Spain, he began his professional cycling career in 2003 with the ONCE-Liberty team.
Grand Tour Successes
Contador rose to prominence after winning the Tour de France in 2007 and 2009. He also claimed victories in the Giro d'Italia in 2008 and 2011, and the Vuelta a España in 2008 and 2012. These triumphs solidified his status as one of the most successful Grand Tour riders of all time.
Contador's exceptional climbing abilities and aggressive style of racing earned him the nickname "El Pistolero" (The Gunslinger). He became known for his ability to attack and gain significant time gaps on his rivals.
However, Contador's career was also marked by controversy. In 2012, he was suspended for two years after testing positive for a banned substance. After returning to cycling in 2014, he retired in 2017, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest cyclists of his generation.
